Mass. advisers to get background checks

BOSTON – With the start of 2014, individuals who want to be registered as investment adviser representatives with the Massachusetts Securities Division in the Office of the Secretary of the Commonwealth will be required to consent to a background check through the state’s Criminal Offender Record Information system.
The requirement applies to all investment adviser representatives applying to be newly registered in the state, according to a press release from Secretary of the Commonwealth William F. Galvin. It does not apply to those making an annual renewal application.
The form is available online on the Securities Division website at www.sec.state.ma.us and must be completed and filed electronically to CORI@sec.state.ma.us.
