Mass. pending home sales jump in August

WALTHAM, Mass. – Massachusetts home sales continue to pick up momentum, with pending sales in August jumping 42 percent from the same period last year, according to the Massachusetts Association of Realtors.
In single-family homes, pending sales in the Bay State were recorded at 5,866 in August, 42 percent higher than in August 2014.
Condominium sales also are on the rise. Pending sales in August were recorded at 2,042, a 29 percent increase.
Median prices in both categories also rose. The median price for a house rose to $368,000 in August, a 5 percent increase from 2014. The median price for a condo climbed 4 percent, to $338,500.
A local market update, available in July, for Bristol County showed the mid-point of the summer market was accelerating. Pending sales in July in Bristol County increased 32 percent from the previous year, to 471 single-family houses under contract. Pending sales for condos in July increased 9.5 percent, to 69 units.
