Massachusetts reports 55K jobs added in 2013

BOSTON – The Mass. Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development said last week the state added 55,200 jobs in 2013, with private-sector job gains of 54,400. According to a statement, the gain represented the largest number of jobs created in a December-December period since 2000.

The professional, scientific, business services, education and health-services sectors led the way for job gains.

Additionally, the office said that the preliminary January 2014 estimate shows that the state’s total unemployed dropped 0.3 percent to 6.8 percent from the revised December 2013 rate, and jobs were down 4,500. •
