PROVIDENCE – Roger Williams Park Casino hosted a free job fair Tuesday for local residents looking for work, organized in conjunction with Providence Mayor Angel Taveras and Cranston Mayor Allan W. Fung.

The event, the fifth in a series of eight industry-specific Mayors’ Job Fairs open to the public, was specifically tailored to the education and information technology sectors. It took place from 12 to 2 p.m. at 1000 Elmwood Ave., Providence.

Participating companies that accepted applications ranged from the Providence Schools Department and Johnson & Wales University to Atrion Networking Corp. and FM Global, among others. Eighteen companies in total had representatives at the fair, Ann S. Gooding, director of communications for the Providence Economic Development office, told PBN.

The job fairs are part of a joint mayoral effort to tackle local unemployment, a partnership undertaken with Workforce Solutions of Providence/Cranston.

One hundred and nine local residents preregistered for the fair, with more expected to attend the event, said Gooding. She added that attendance at the previous job fairs has ranged from about 200 for a fair on careers in the military to roughly 350 for a healthcare industry fair.

The firms at the fair were looking to fill a number of different positions including network engineer, driving school instructor, fleet supervisor and insurance agent at AAA; information services and enterprise learning at FM Global; and networking and communications positions at the Rhode Island National Guard, Gooding said.
