Providence College awarded McAuley Village, a two-year transitional housing program for single parents, a $5,000 grant from the college’s Making a Difference Fund.
McAuley Village plans to use the funds to launch a new job-development program called McAuley WORKS!. The program targets single moms with lower academic achievements and requires them to choose an employment path. Participants complete education modules that provide certificates in hospitality, cosmetology, elder care and child care.
McAuley WORKS! is provided in tandem to the standard job-training program that requires residents to advance their education through GED, ESL or college courses. The goal of these education and job-training programs is to help residents achieve a life of independence and financial stability.
McAuley Village consists of 23 apartments that provide shelter, child care, advocacy and supportive services, as well as job training. It is one of four centers run under McAuley Ministries. •
