Mechanics Cooperative Bank donates $6K to fuel assistance programs, food banks

TAUNTON, Mass. – Mechanics Cooperative Bank has donated $6,000 to local fuel assistance programs and food banks in the region.
The bank’s board of directors and executive leadership team will direct these funds to three local organizations helping support needy families throughout Taunton, Fall River, Raynham, Bridgewater, Dighton, Somerset and Swansea.
The groups are St. Vincent de Paul Food Bank in Bridgewater; Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen in Taunton; and First Christian Congregational Church in Swansea.
President and CEO Joseph T. Baptista Jr. noted, it is important, “especially at this time of year, to remember and support those local families that are less fortunate. The additional fuel and food assistance provided by Mechanics Cooperative Bank can make all the difference to some local families during the holidays – and could be just the help they need to be sure their children have a wonderful Christmas.”
The gift is aligned with the bank’s pledge to donate at least 10 percent of its annual net income to local nonprofits and families in need, he said.
Adds Baptista: “I am honored to say that our ‘Let’s Keep It Local’ tagline is not just a slogan; rather, it is a philosophy that is embedded in company management, and throughout all levels of our organization.”
