TAUNTON – Mechanics Cooperative Bank employees raised more than $2,700 for local food pantries this holiday season.
Bank employees created the “Employee Dress-down Week,” which ran through Dec. 23. Each employee could donate $5 per day to dress down in support of our local food pantries or employees could donate $20 and dress down for the entire week. This community-focused donation drive also received a lot of support from customers who contributed canned food at all bank locations. The bank matched all donations.
In total, the bank split $2,736 between the Greater Fall River Community Food Pantry and Our Daily Bread in Taunton, Mass.
Joseph T. Baptista Jr., president and CEO of Mechanics Cooperative Bank, said the fund-raising drive impressed him.
“It is amazing to see the support and dedication our employees have for our community and for those less fortunate than ourselves,” he said. “To be a strong community bank, you need a strong team of employees – and the Mechanics employees make our ‘Let’s Keep it Local’ tagline a reality! I am beyond proud to work with each and every employee at Mechanics Cooperative Bank.”
The bank also held a “Best Christmas Outfit” contest that highlighted the creativity of employees. Some dressed as presents, some as Christmas trees, and even included a number of very ”unique” Christmas sweaters.
Established in 1877, Mechanics Cooperative Bank is Massachusetts’ second oldest co-operative bank with eight branches in Bridgewater, Taunton, North Dighton, Somerset, Swansea, Fall River and Westport.
