Mechanics Cooperative Bank recently pledged $100,000 to support Fall River YMCA’s upcoming restoration project at a groundbreaking ceremony held Nov. 6 at the Fall River YMCA.
The restoration project will revitalize the 50,000-square-foot historic facility located at 199 North Main St. The project will include a new education center, state-of-the-art health and wellness facilities and equipment and preservation effort. The revitalization plans also include changes to adapt the building for the handicapped visitors.
“As a community anchor, the YMCA has been a fixture on North Main Street for as long as most people can remember. We are proud to help support an organization like the YMCA to ensure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive,” said Joseph T. Baptista Jr., president and CEO of Mechanics Cooperative Bank.
The pledge is part of an ongoing initiative announced in August 2011, where the bank’s board of directors and executive leadership committed to donating at least 10 percent of their annual net income each year to local nonprofit organizations in southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island. •
