Meeting Street and Schwartz center join to boost services

PROVIDENCE – Meeting Street has announced the acquisition of The Schwartz Center for Children based in Dartmouth.
Founded just a year apart – and nearly 70 years ago – the nonprofits will explore ways they can enhance the educational and therapeutic services available to children throughout southeastern New England. The goal is to serve more children and families.
Meeting Street supports more than 3,000 youth and families through school programs, outpatient practice and early childhood work. The Schwartz Center supports children with special medical and developmental needs in southern Massachusetts.
Nonprofit members are comparable to corporate shareholders. Though no money exchanged hands in the acquisition, by virtue of Meeting Street becoming the sole member, it will be the controlling entity as of July 1.
Meeting Street President John M. Kelly will become CEO of the Schwartz Center. Current Schwartz Center CEO Mary Hodgson will continue as president.
Amanda McMullen, Meeting Street chief strategy officer, could not say last week whether any jobs would be lost due to the deal. •
