Meeting Street nominated for $10K grant; votes sought

Twenty-two nonprofits from around the country, including Meeting Street of Providence, have been nominated for the Jewelers for Children local grant program.
Jewelers for Children, a New York City-based nonprofit founded by the jewelry industry in 1999, is dedicated to helping children in need. The organization recently launched a local grant program, setting aside $100,000 to fund 10 grants of $10,000 each for local children’s charities around the country.
Meeting Street serves children with early intervention, Healthy Families America and other initiatives.
“It is such an easy way to help support the nearly 4,000 children served by Meeting Street,” said Ashley DeSimone, Meeting Street manager of special events. “We are the only Rhode Island nonprofit to be nominated, so we’re trying to rally our communities to vote so we may receive one of these generous grants.”
Public voting on the Jewelers for Children Facebook page, www.facebook.com/JewelersforChildren, will determine the top 10 vote-getters to receive the grants. Those wishing to participate can go to that page anytime between now and Oct. 18, click on the nonprofit of their choice, and encourage others to visit the page and vote, too.
“Pulling together, we can provide funding for our many programs including early childhood initiatives, early intervention, our school programs and more,” said DeSimone. “One minute of your time, one vote, $10,000.”
