Met School to celebrate student, CVS founder

PROVIDENCE – The Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center will welcome Rhode Island business leaders on Wednesday to celebrate a student who will compete in a national competition for young entrepreneurs and the school’s most influential supporter.

Next week, sophomore Noah Salem will represent the school, state and New England in a competition in Silicon Valley, Calif. sponsored by the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. The 2014 NFTE National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge grand prize winner will take home $25,000 in venture capital and prizes.
Noah will participate in a final “dress rehearsal” on Wednesday, and CVS co-founder and retired CEO Stanley Goldstein will be among the participants.
Noah qualified for the regional competition along with two other Met students in the spring. They are students at the Met’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the nation’s only stand-alone entrepreneurship program for high school students, which Goldstein was instrumental in creating.
Noah’s business, KickVids, is a venture that specializes in crowd funding. He produces videos for entrepreneurs and artists who want to raise capital by showcasing their ideas to much larger audiences, such as those who frequent Kickstarter, Indiegogo and other platforms. KickVids’ point of distinction is that it charges a low flat fee for videos and collects a percentage of funds raised on successful campaigns. KickVids’ success is based on its clients’ success.
The Met also will install a bronze statue of “Mary” – Goldstein’s golden retriever – to permanently welcome all future entrepreneurs to the school that Goldstein helped to launch.
