The MetLife Foundation recently awarded Junior Achievement of Rhode Island $40,000 between two grants, which will support programs for K-12 students.
Junior achievement received a $25,000 grant as a recipient of MetLife Foundation’s entrepreneurial award. The award recognized the success of Junior Achievement’s Education Awareness Week, which took place April 2014. The grant will be used to expand the reach of the organization’s innovative programming, which are developed by Junior Achievement affiliates worldwide.
The second grant of $15,000 was donated by the MetLife Foundation Volunteer Project Fund and it will be used to provide 16 programs, which will impact nearly 350 Rhode Island students in urban and urban-ring schools.
The programs are taught by business and community leaders, who donate their time to prepare students for the workplace. Aside from providing financial literacy and entrepreneurial workshops, Junior Achievement volunteers also work to empower students of all ages and encourage civic literacy. •
