Metcalf Diversity Awards announced

PROVIDENCE – The 2015 Metcalf Diversity in the Media Awards will be held May 12 at the Hotel Providence on Mathewson Street, according to Rhode Island for Community & Justice.

Kendall Moore, an associate professor of journalism and film/media at the University of Rhode Island, will be honored for the film “The Good Radical.”

Providence Journal writer Tom Mooney was recognized in the print daily category for “On Patrol, Reflections about Race,” while Rhode Island Monthly writer Casey Nilsson was recognized in the print monthly category for “A Clean Release.”
Rhode Island Public Radio’s Elisabeth Harrison was recognized in the radio category for “Transgender Bullying” and Carlos Spinola, a volunteer community journalist, was honored for community journalism.
Evolution Cultural Group Magazine’s Miguel Angel Odio and staff were recognized in the category of “series/unique and community journalism” for its Web site.
Tickets are $35 for the event, which takes place from 8 to 10:30 a.m. The award was founded in 1998 to honor Michael Metcalf, publisher of the Providence Journal.
