Metta Students honors Pawtucket teen with $1,000 grant

PAWTUCKET – Pawtucket teen and Saint Raphael Academy student Sara Taborda, 17, was honored Wednesday by the Metta Students Foundation for her dedication to and support of those in need in her community.

Taborda, who believes giving back to her community demonstrates selflessness and is heavily involved with camps run by Saint Raphael for at-risk children, received $1,000 from the foundation for her work.

“It is satisfying to know that people still appreciate acts of kindness and this honor has only made me want to continue serving those in my community,” she said.

Norm Kelly, founder of Providence-based Software Quality Associates and creator of the Metta Students Foundation, explained metta means love and kindness.

“The common denominator with all of our Metta Students is their compassion, unselfishness and dedication to others. Each is unique, but they all want to make the world a better place,” he said.

Taborda is the 33rd student honored by Metta Students Foundation. To date the 4-year-old company has given away $33,000 to students who have shared the metta.
