Mews 5K raises $32,000

WAKEFIELD – The 13th annual Mews Tavern Gear ‘N’ Beer 5K Road Race late last year raised more than $32,000 for Easter Seals Rhode Island, a nonprofit that provides social services to children and young adults with disabilities or special needs.

More than 1,500 people took part in the road race through Wakefield. Participants and spectators later attended a post-race celebration hosted by Mews Tavern with a BBQ buffet, microbrews and raffles.

The race supports Easter Seals Rhode Island Early Intervention and Pediatric Outpatient programs.

“We are very fortunate to have the Mews Tavern support our programs and be a true community partner,” said Judy Fortier, Easter Seals RI director of development, in a statement. “The [race] allows Easter Sales to provide services for children and young adults with disabilities, to allow them to become more independent, adjust to change, develop new skills, and play with their beers.”

Last year the nonprofit served more than 400 children through the early intervention and pediatric programs.
