Why did you select your profession?
I enjoy the process of identifying problems and coming up with solutions. I thought that as a lawyer, I would have the opportunity to help people fix problems, not just complain about them.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?
You don’t need to be a jerk to be an effective lawyer.
What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?
Travel more – it’s easier now than it will be in 16 years.
What is your favorite Rhode Island escape or hobby?
I love exploring Narragansett Bay. Rhode Island feels like a completely different place when you see it from the water.
What one thing in your professional life would you like a do-over on?
When I was clerking for the R.I. Supreme Court, I worked on a case involving the “Public Trust Doctrine.” As a result of an unfortunate typo, I circulated a very compelling memo to the judges of the Supreme Court discussing the “Pubic” Trust Doctrine. •
