Miriam, Brown researchers net $3.5M HIV grant

PROVIDENCE – The Miriam Hospital infectious diseases physician Rami Kantor and Brown School of Public Health biostatistics professor Joseph Hogan recently received a $3.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health to optimize HIV treatment.

Kantor and Hogan take information that is routinely collected – including height, weight, age, and white blood cell count – and use it to develop data-driven recommendations for targeting the use of more expensive and complex tests.

They will use statistical methods to find new ways to administer tests that will lower overall testing costs for major care programs.
