Miriam doctors improve bladder cancer detection

PROVIDENCE – A new, minimally invasive technology is allowing doctors at The Miriam Hospital to detect bladder cancer with greater success.

Part of the work performed by the Minimally Invasive Urology Institute at The Miriam Hospital, the procedure requires the introduction of an optical imaging agent into the bladder to detect unusual growth and malignancies.

Cancer of the bladder is the sixth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States and has the highest recurrence rate of any form of cancer. It is the fifth most common cancer in Rhode Island.
