Miriam’s Scott-Sheldon is honored for research

PROVIDENCE – A research scientist with The Miriam Hospital, who studies high-risk behaviors such as excessive drinking and unprotected sex, was honored Oct. 31 at the Lifespan Annual Research Celebration.
Lori A. Scott-Sheldon, an assistant professor of psychiatry and human behavior at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical School, received the 2013 Bruce M. Selya Award for Excellence in Research.
Michael Carey, director of the Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine at The Miriam Hospital, nominated Dr. Scott-Sheldon for the award. He said that in addition to being a superb scientist, known internationally for her expertise in meta-analytic methodology and statistical analyses, she has a “heartfelt commitment” to social justice. •
