PROVIDENCE – During the second quarter, 2,041 new business entities registered with the R.I. Secretary of State’s Business Services Division, higher than the number reported the previous quarter, the secretary’s office announced Tuesday.

The second-quarter figure represents a 2.6 percent increase over the 1,989 new businesses registered during the first quarter, as well as a 6.9 percent increase over the 1,909 businesses registered for the second quarter of 2013.

“The second quarter numbers for 2014 shows the economy here in Rhode Island is steadily recovering, and things are looking brighter for entrepreneurs and small businesses,” said Secretary of State A. Ralph Mollis in a release. “The data shows Rhode Islanders are optimistic in Rhode Island’s long-term potential, and are not hesitating to place business roots right here in Rhode Island, where they are confident they can grow and be successful.”

The Business Services Division offers resources to start, maintain and grow a business, including forms for business filings, a first-stop business information center, notary public services, authentications, probate forms and trademark protection.
