PROVIDENCE – Today’s snowfall is expected to bring up to four inches of snow in parts of Rhode Island, according to the National Weather Service.
William Simpson, National Weather Service spokesman, said the northern part of the state is expected to get the least amount of snow, one inch, but the southern part may see as much as four inches. T.F. Green Airport in Warwick should see three inches of snow.
Snow is expected to stop late afternoon, he said.
The snowfall total in Providence to date is 67.2 inches, more than double the normal snowfall amount of 28.7 inches.
But the good news is, no more snow is predicted for the near future.
Simpson said temperatures next week are expected to be normal or above normal. The normal temperature for this time of year is 42 degrees.
Meanwhile, Westerly is the only public school that canceled classes. Several communities, including Cranston, Johnston, Narragansett and Westerly, have announced parking bans. Information about closings can be found HERE.
T.F. Green Airport is reporting some cancellations. R.I. Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is detouring 14 routes due to the weather – routes 1, 3, 6, 18, 21, 27 29, 34, 49, 64, 65X, 66, 87 and 92. Routes 65x and 66 are on detour due to a fire.
RIPTA will continue to restore service on those routes as conditions allow and will also advise riders of any other detours due to the storm.
RIPTA said riders may expect some delays on all routes due to weather conditions and are advised to use extreme caution at bus stops due to decreased visibility and slippery conditions. Updates can be found at www.ripta.com.
