77 businesses receive honors at 22nd Worksite Health Awards

WARWICK – In recognition of Rhode Island employers’ successful efforts to advance employee wellness and build a healthier Rhode Island, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce issued Worksite Health Awards to 77 local businesses. More than 400 business leaders from across Rhode Island attended the 22nd annual Worksite Health Awards ceremony, held on June 2, at the Crowne Plaza Providence-Warwick, to celebrate the honorees’ efforts, which benefit thousands of Rhode Island employees.

“For the last 22 years, the Worksite Health Awards has given us the opportunity to recognize and celebrate employers who have made a commitment to help their teams take action and embrace healthy choices that improve life at work and at home,” Melissa Cummings, BCBSRI’s chief customer officer, said in a statement. “Building healthy communities takes a team, and we have wonderful teammates in the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce and in all of the dedicated employers who applied and will be honored this year.”

“More than 20 years after launching the Worksite Health Awards, we remain awed by the hard work and commitment of those Rhode Island companies which go above and beyond to make workplace wellness a priority. By increasing morale and production, and decreasing health care costs and sick leave, worksite health programs are a win for all involved,” Laurie White, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement. “We are once again pleased to partner with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island to recognize more than 75 local businesses and hopefully to inspire even more Rhode Island companies to find creative ways to help their employees live better, healthier and happier lives.”

All Rhode Island businesses are eligible to apply for the annual Worksite Health Awards. Winners are selected based on the scale and impact of their health and wellness programs and health-oriented workplace policies after submitting evidence of such programs. Some of the most beneficial worksite programs included smoking cessation initiatives, flu immunization clinics, blood pressure screenings and walking programs.
