PROVIDENCE – The Moses Brown School has debuted the 36,000-square-foot Woodman Family Community & Performance Center, which is connected to the Walter Jones Library on the 33-acre campus in Providence.
The building, constructed by Shawmut Design and Construction, was completed in 18 months, according to a news release. The $25.4 million facility is one of the largest construction projects in the school’s history.
Designed by Durkee, Brown, Viveiros & Werenfels Architects, the facility will serve multiple purposes. It has a main hall with a capacity of 540 for musical theater performances, exhibitions, workshops and other school and community activities.
The center also has a café, classrooms, theater support space and an outdoor gathering area. The campus’ new central heating plant is contained in its basement.
The Walter Jones Library was renovated as part of the project. It now has a new learning and resource center, and an archive storage and research facility for 230 years of artifacts, books, documents and photos in the school collection.
