EAST GREENWICH – New England Institute of Technology will offer a new bachelor of science degree program in rehabilitation sciences starting in July, Douglas H. Sherman, senior vice president and provost, said this week.
According to a NEIT press release, the program offers students the opportunity to support individuals with disabilities to regain functional independence through an analysis of physical, cognitive and perceptual skills; interventions are then provided using clinical reasoning and advanced analytical processes.
Students will learn about disability rights, services and advocacy. Delivered in a hybrid format, the program features students meeting on campus approximately five times per quarter, every other week, allowing them to complete their education utilizing a flexible schedule.
NEIT said that knowledge in physical rehabilitation, assistive technology and occupational science prepares students for career advancement in health care and patient advocacy, or graduate studies in occupational therapy, engineering-related fields, physical therapy, sports medicine or architectural design.
“This new hybrid program provides an advanced degree for students with an associate degree in health care or related fields. Utilizing hands-on applications, technological interventions and environmental modifications, students learn best practices to promote functional independence and enhance the care of individuals with disabilities. The BS in RS degree also prepares students for application to graduate studies in various fields,” Sherman said in a statement.
