EAST GREENWICH – New England Institute of Technology ranked 14th on a list of the top 25 private, nonprofit, high-admission bachelor’s degree-granting institutions by graduation rate from AffordableSchools.net.
NEIT, which offers more than 50 degree programs, was recognized for its 48 percent graduation rate.
Bethel University, in St. Paul, Minn., was ranked No. 1 for its 74 percent graduation rate, with Independence University in Salt Lake City and Harding University, in Searcy, Ark., in second and third places with rates of 72 and 63 percent, respectively.
“College search is hard work,” Raj Dash, the article’s lead researcher, said in a statement. “Students sometimes overlook the many niches of the 2,750+ bachelor’s colleges in the U.S. that might suit them better. We’ve started a new series of niche college rankings, starting with this one that covers colleges that improve a student’s chances of being accepted.”
AffordableSchools.net, which bills itself as a higher education resource, said popular schools are not the only ones providing a quality education, and that’s where high-admission (95 percent and up) private, nonprofit colleges come in. All of the colleges on the list have either an open-admissions policy or an undergrad admissions rate of at least 95 percent.

It also said that discerning students want a college that gives a quality education and has a relatively high graduation rate. And, it noted that all schools on the list have the same tuition for in-state and out-of-state students. Tuition is $22,371 at NEIT. All the colleges listed also have more than 2,000 students.

Rankings for the list were compiled using data from the National Center for Education Statistics, a bureau of the federal Department of Education, according to AffordableSchools.net.
