PROVIDENCE – WJAR-TV NBC 10 and NESN – New England’s most-watched sports network – announced a content sharing partnership for Red Sox and Bruins coverage.
“WJAR has been a leader in providing the Providence market with the best news and sports coverage for decades,” Sean McGrail, NESN’s president and CEO, said in prepared remarks.
“We are proud to partner with WJAR and excited to provide Rhode Island sports fans with more localized coverage through this exceptional affiliation,” said McGrail.
The partnership, which is similar to NESN’s content sharing deal with WBZ-TV in Boston, will utilize NESN’s Providence DMA signal.
Providence’s DMA signal is the 53rd largest TV market in the country and includes all of Rhode Island, as well as Bristol County, Mass.
Several game-day activities targeted at fans in the Providence market will debut on Tuesday, May 29 and Wednesday, May 30.
The programs include NESN Live Shots for WJAR-TV NBC 10 newscasts at 6 p.m. and noon and pregame reports from Fenway Park as well as NESN road telecasts.
Under the terms of the partnership, WJAR sports director Frank Carpano will appear as a guest on NESN’s Boston Red Sox pregame shows.
WJAR’s weather team, StormTeam 10, will deliver Providence area weather updates to NESN viewers during Red Sox pregame and postgame shows.
“We are proud and honored to partner with NESN, the region’s top-rated sports network,” Vic Vetters, WJAR general manager, said in a statement. “Red Sox and Bruins sports fans in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass. are loyal and serious when it comes to sports coverage.”
“Bringing WJAR together with NESN, two powerhouse media organizations, is the perfect fit and we’re excited to bring viewers even more local weather and sports content during the Red Sox and Bruins seasons,” said Vetters.
