NStar looks to cut gas price

BOSTON – NStar has applied to lower the cost of natural gas for its customers by 26.5 percent to about 39 cents per therm from nearly 53 cents per them, a company release reported. The filing with the Mass. Department of Public Utilities is based on the forecast price for gas on the New York Mercantile Exchange (the company does not make a profit on the price of gas).
“To see a drop in gas supply prices as we begin to move toward cooler weather is definitely encouraging,” said Rod Powell, president of gas distribution for Northeast Utilities, NSTAR’s parent company.
The company estimated that the change in price for the commodity would save the average NStar gas customer $4 per month beginning in September.
The utility supplies electricity and gas to 1.4 million customers in Massachusetts, including the following Bristol County municipalities:

  • Acushnet, electricity and gas
  • Dartmouth, electricity and gas
  • Fairhaven, electricity and gas
  • Freetown, electricity and gas
  • New Bedford, electricity and gas
  • Westport, electricity
