NEWPORT – Three employees from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center Newport Division were selected as winners of the Rhode Island Federal Employees of the Year Award.
Denise Szelag, Joseph Murphy and Nicolina Kelly were honored for their professional accomplishments, technical excellence and compliance and humanitarian work.
The awards, announced Tuesday, were handed out by the Rhode Island Federal Executive Council.
Szelag, who was instrumental in bringing a fiscal management system to the 22,000 Naval Sea Systems Command employees nationwide, won the R.I. Federal Employee of the Year Award in the professional category.
Murphy, Director of Physical Operations, won the R.I. Federal Employee of the Year Award in the technical/compliance category. He is responsible for all environmental, safety, security, facilities and installation support programs at NUWC Newport and its satellite locations around the United States.
