NanoSteel taps Parsons to head up automotive business

PROVIDENCE – The NanoSteel Co., a non-structured steel materials designer, has tapped Craig Parsons as its new president of the automotive business, the company announced Wednesday.

As president of the automotive business, Parsons will lead NanoSteel’s automotive initiatives and work to drive adoption of the company’s new advanced high strength steel sheet across the auto industry.

Parsons, who has more than 20 years of experience in global supply chain operations, manufacturing processes and new product development, will be based in NanoSteel’s new Detroit office.

“NanoSteel’s three classes of cold-formable AHSS provide powerful and versatile material choices for automakers,” Parsons said in prepared remarks. “Given the company’s recent sheet steel progress and the interest of numerous auto [original equipment manufacturers] and Tier 1s such as GM, I look forward to working with our steel and automotive partners to leverage NanoSteel products across multiple platforms.”

Prior to joining NanoSteel, Parsons held executive roles at Gestamp and Noble International Ltd., where he is recognized for bringing leading light-weight steel technologies such as laser welded blanks and tubes, roll-forming and hot-stamping to automotive manufacturers. Parsons holds a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, a master’s degree from Michigan State University and an MBA from the University of Detroit.

“Bringing in someone of Craig’s level and accomplishment represents a significant milestone for the company as we work to introduce our AHSS sheet steel across the automotive sector,” David Paratore, NanoSteel’s president and CEO, said in a statement.

“Craig’s successful track record and unique combination of skills will be integral to our overall growth strategy as we transition from sheet steel production trials and validation to working with our customers on specific commercial applications for automotive structural parts and components,” added Paratore.
