During a recent luncheon, the Narragansett Council of Boy Scouts raised an estimated $250,000 and presented two local executives with its Sen. John H. Chafee Distinguished Citizens Award.
Both Robert DiMuccio, president, chairman and CEO of Amica Mutual Insurance Co. and Joseph J. MarcAurele, president, chairman and CEO of Washington Trust Co., were honored for the examples they set in and out of the office.
“Each year the council recognizes distinguished community leaders and business executives whose lives and accomplishments embody scouting principles,” said John Mosby, scout executive and CEO of the Narragansett Council. “This year’s recipients are role models for local youth and serve as shining examples within our community.”
The award is named for the late Sen. Chafee, a Narragansett Council alumnus who kept a copy of the Scout Handbook on his office desk.
More than 300 people attended the luncheon, including Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee, who attended to honor his father and support the program.
Funds raised will support the ScoutReach Program, which expands scouting to those in at-risk, urban neighborhoods. &#8226
