National Grid names Donleavy executive vice president, COO

WALTHAM, Mass. – National Grid named John J. Donleavy executive vice president and chief operating officer for the company’s U.S. operations, which include more than 3 million electric and 3 million natural gas customers in Massachusetts, New York and Rhode Island.
In the role, Donleavy will report directly to company President Tom King. He will oversee all aspects of National Grid’s U.S. operations, including electric and gas transmission and distribution, generation, LNG, control-center operations, emergency planning, project management and complex construction, resource planning, fleet and material management, safety, environment and health.
Prior to joining National Grid, Donleavy was president and CEO of Vermont Electric Power Company, where he led an enterprisewide, business-process transformation and spearheaded the “largest capital infrastructure construction program in the company’s and Vermont’s history,” according to a news release.
He also serves as president of Lafayette Power Consulting, which provides expertise to Fortune 500 energy companies in their business-development strategy. •
