National Guard begins corrosion treatment at Coventry facility

COVENTRY – The R.I. Army National Guard has begun installation of a Corrosion Control Treatment System to comply with the requirements of the federal Lead and Copper Rule at its base located here.
According to a news release, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency last year entered into an administrative order with the National Guard to resolve violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act at the facility.
The previous failure to install corrosion-control treatment has caused the facility to exceed the action levels established under the Safe Drinking Water Act for lead and copper.
According to the EPA release, the National Guard was “quick to respond to … concerns and began implementing a plan to bring the facility into compliance.” &#8226
