PROVIDENCE – Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island is ranked fifth in the nation for Medicaid health plans, according to the 2012-2013 National Committee for Quality Assurance rankings.
“We have moved up three spots from last year [from No. 8 to No. 5], despite an increase in competition,” said Mark E. Reynolds, CEO of Neighborhood Health Plan, noting that the number of plans evaluated in the ranking jumped to 115 from 99 this year. “We are one of only two Medicaid plans to be ranked in the top 10 every year since the National Committee for Quality Assurance began rankings in 2004.”
The other program to be ranked in the top 10 every year is the Kaiser Foundation Health Plan in Hawaii.
A nonprofit health insurer, Neighborhood Health Plan has about 78,000 members, serving approximately 66 percent of all Medicaid managed care participants Rhode Island.
Reynolds said being named as one of the nation’s top Medicaid health plans a honor, but shared the recognition with Neighborhood Health Plans partners. “It would not be possible without our remarkably innovative partners at the community health centers, the broader provider community, and the many local agencies that work with us daily to assure everyone has access to affordable, quality [health] care.”
