SOUTH KINGSTOWN – A U.S. District Court jury has awarded $10.7 million to Server Technology Inc., a manufacturer of data-center power distribution units based in Reno, Nev., ending the company’s seven-year patent infringement case against American Power Conversion Corp., the Reno Gazette-Journal reported Saturday.

Server Technology filed the case in 2006 alleging that APC, a subsidiary of Schneider Electric SA that also supplies power distribution and data center products, copied Server Technology’s patented vertical-mount electric power plugstrip and digital-display power distribution device.

The jury decision rendered on May 29 in U.S. District Court in Reno found that APC’s AP7900 series and AP8900 power distribution products infringe on both Sever Technology patents.

Elizabeth deCastro, a spokeswoman for Schneider Electric, told the Gazette-Journal that the company will consider an appeal of the court decision.
