New Bedford Chamber recognizes contributions

NEW BEDFORD – The New Bedford Area Chamber of Commerce last week recognized three organizations for their “significant investment and contribution” to the economic development of the region.
Through its Greater New Bedford Economic Impact Awards program, the Chamber honored Child & Family Services, Hampton Inn Fairhaven and Manomet Place. All three “have created or retained jobs, improved the general appearance of the community and generated economic growth throughout the Greater New Bedford Area,” the Chamber said in a statement.
Child & Family Services of New Bedford, one of the oldest nonprofits in the region, was recognized for its recent expansion into a new 30,000-square-foot headquarters located on Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford, rehabbing “an old and unsightly former shopping plaza.”
Hampton Inn Fairhaven, owned and operated by Claremont Companies, recently underwent a major renovation project, which represented a “significant investment” and utilized the work of several local companies, the Chamber said.
Manomet Place of New Bedford was a joint project between Winn Development and mill owner John Keith, president of Keith Construction. Manomet Place consists of 76 mixed-income and age-restricted rental units. •
