FALL RIVER – Those who attend the presidential inauguration on Friday will receive a memento from New England – a blue fleece blanket from New England Fleece.

New England Fleece, which does business as Northeast Fleece, has been chosen to supply 2,200 micro fleece blankets embroidered with the date and presidential seal, according to a news release from the company on Tuesday.

“We were thrilled in 2009 when the Obama committee tapped our company for the first time and then again in 2013. Today, we are honored again to play a role in this American tradition,” New England Fleece owner Peter Moubayed said in a statement.

The company said that fleece, developed for mountain climbing and polar expeditions, “has gained mainstream popularity for its ability to insulate, wick away moisture and breathe, making it a suitable fabric for the variable weather conditions that occur in Washington, D.C., in January.”

While the forecast is for mild weather – 55 degrees – on Friday in the U.S. Capitol, temperatures at noon – the time Donald J. Trump will take his oath of office – typically hover around 37 degrees with a wind chill slightly below freezing.

Founded in 1996, New England Fleece, located in the Durfee Union Mills, provides fleece blankets to wholesale and retail markets.

Customers include the National Guard, American Red Cross, National Football League, Nike, Nautica, Pepsi Cola, Verizon, USA Olympic Water Polo team and universities such as Harvard, Dartmouth and Brown.
