New app for inhalers introduced

PROVIDENCE – A new app to teach the correct use of inhalers as a way to improve and expand better care and management of patient education and treatment efficacy has been introduced into the market by Rhode Island entrepreneur Fenil Shah.
The inhaled respiratory market represents one of the largest categories of drug spending, according to Shah, whose new app, “Inhalers App,” is now available for both iPhone and iPad and features step-by-step instructions in English and Spanish.
Among the features of the app are real-time practice webcam features for visual feedback, a single stop for training on more than 15 inhaler devices, animation for kids and teens. A clinical study is currently in progress, with results to be published shortly, according to Shah.
“Several studies show that most patients and providers make many mistakes in using their inhaler devices correctly due to lack of proper and accurate training.,” Shah said. “This can lead to substantial additional medical costs, poor control of diseases such as asthma, and substantial hardship.”
