New concussion event for Rhode Island’s Brain Week

PROVIDENCE – “Heads Up! A Panel on Concussion,” will be held today as part of Rhode Island ‘s first Brain Week, which offers an array of activities and programs. Focusing on adult and youth sports injuries, the program features neurologists, sports injury prevention specialists and a special guest, former R.I. Supreme Court Justice Robert G. Flanders Jr. The panel, which is sponsored by the Norman Prince Neurosciences Institute at Rhode Island Hospital, will be held at Brown University’s Warren Alpert Medical Center. Refreshments will be offered at 5 p.m., and the program begins at 5:30 p.m.

Brain Week Rhode Island is the creation of a Providence-based national advocacy organization for mental illness research, Cure Alliance for Mental Illness, according to a press release from the organization. Cure Alliance for Mental Illness is coordinating activities with help from the presenting sponsor, Brown Institute for Brain Science, and additional support from the Norman Prince Neurosciences Institute and Butler Hospital.
