Newport 10 Miler benefits Fort Adams

NEWPORT – The second annual Newport 10 Miler road race contributed $8,345 to the Fort Adams Trust, according to Gray Matter Marketing, a consultant and event management agency.
Held on April 27 at Fort Adams State Park, the road race included more than 1,700 athletes, an increase of 500 over the number registered in 2013.
Funds will be used to enhance the trust’s mission of directing and supporting the stabilization, restoration, and operation of Fort Adams as a historic site.
The scenic 10-mile course started in Fort Adams State Park and finished inside the gates of the historic Fort. The course takes advantage of Newport’s views of Newport Harbor, Narragansett Bay, Ocean Drive and historic Bellevue Avenue.
“Partnerships are critical to maintaining important historic assets, like Fort Adams,” said Rick Nagele, executive director of the Fort Adams Trust. “Without partners like Gray Matter Marketing, we’d be challenged to find the resources we need to restorate and maintain this National Historic Landmark.
“Not many people know this, but Fort Adams was tied as second largest construction project of its day, behind only the Erie Canal. Many consider this place the NASA of its day – the laboratory where America learned how to build large, complex military systems. It’s worth preserving.”
“We are thrilled to present this donation to the Fort Adams Trust,” said Matthew Gray, president of Gray Matter Marketing. “Partnering with the Fort Adams Trust is an honor and we look forward to producing this event for years to come. We take great pride in supporting local non-profit organizations that contribute so much to our community.”
