Newport Biodiesel looks to boost production

Posted 4/23/12

NEWPORT — The owners of Newport Biodiesel LLC have asked the state for permission to triple the company’s annual production to 1.5 million gallons, according to The Newport Daily News.

The biodiesel company employs about 20 people and collects vegetable oil waste from more than 1,000 restaurants in southern New England.

The R.I. Department of Environmental Management has scheduled a public hearing on the proposal for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, at the company’s Connell Highway plant.

Newport Biodiesel partners are not expecting any opposition to their plan and are not intending on expanding their facilities, according to the news source.
