MIDDLETOWN – The Newport County Chamber of Commerce is offering an informational seminar to expand Israeli business investment and economic development opportunities in Newport County and East Bay.
The programming is a direct outcome of a 2015 visit and series of meetings by the Israel Economic Minister to North America with local business and elected officials.
On Feb. 2, the chamber and other partners will host the seminar on how U.S. companies and institutions can apply for joint funding of up to $1 million for technology collaborations with Israeli partners, as well as the new funding program called NextGen Technologies for first responders. The deadline for the next general technology cycle is March 9.
The free event will be held at the Pell Center, 518 Bellevue Ave., Newport from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Register at www.NewportChamber.com.
The Israel – U.S. Binational Industrial Research and Development (BIRD) Foundation, along with Nevel International, the government of Israel’s Economic Mission to North America and the Consulate General of Israel to New England will be on hand.
“Israel’s high-tech, pro-American business environment would greatly complement our local economy driven by defense, information technology and international tourism,” said Erin Donovan Boyle, executive director of the Newport County Chamber of Commerce. “The chamber looks forward to continuing the process of connecting Israeli and local businesses with commerce and trade opportunities.”
The BIRD Foundation’s mission is to stimulate, promote and support industrial research and development of mutual benefit to the U.S. and Israel. A case study will also be presented by Michael Joukowsky of Early X Foundation, also a past recipient of funding from BIRD.
Nevel International, headed by Avi Nevel, has been retained by the chamber to provide strategic business outreach to Israeli businesses and government leaders. Nevel will also be distributing “We Have It In Newport County, RI USA” informational pamphlets at the Cyber Tech 2016 Conference to be held Jan. 26 and 27 in Israel and scheduling a visit by Newport County business leaders to the Israeli Consulate in Boston in the spring.
