Newport Shipyard earns RIMTA Anchor Award

NEWPORT – The Rhode Island Marine Trades Association presented its annual Anchor Award to Newport Shipyard, to recognize the role the company played in transforming a part of the city’s waterfront.

The award was handed out on Sept. 17 during the Newport International Boat Show.

“Charlie Dana [managing partner] and his family had the vision to transform a piece of Newport’s waterfront into a yard that is not only a mecca for competitive sailors and super-yachts from around the world, but also a destination for boaters and a magnet for marine-related businesses,” Wendy Mackie, RIMTA CEO, said in a news release.

Dana and other investors purchased the shipyard out of bankruptcy in the late 1990s. •
