NEWPORT – It’s Newport vs. Annapolis in a battle for the best city.
Coastal Living Magazine pitted Newport, known for its sailing, shopping and mansions, against Annapolis, the capital of Maryland, in the online contest.

“Two nautical heavyweights go head-to-head on food, cocktails, sailor’s hangouts and dry land must-dos,” the magazine states in its “double take” column.
Discover Newport is urging people to cast a vote for Newport; voting ends at 5 p.m. on June 22. There is no limit on voting and no registration is required.
“While we certainly love our friends in the little nautical nook to the south, we hope you’ll cast your vote for Newport as the better of these two coastal enclaves!” Discover Newport states in its June newsletter.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Newport was leading Annapolis with 53.8 percent of the vote compared with Annapolis’ 46.2 percent.

The magazine gives a taste of what each city has to offer. A dry land must-do in Newport is the Newport International Polo Series, while in Annapolis, it is the annual spring croquet match.
