Newport students wrap up financial education unit

Last month, 100 seniors from Rogers High School in Newport wrapped up a series of presentations on financial literacy by participating in a financial education fair.
The fair was the culminating event of the series, which was given by the BankNewport management team throughout the academic year.
Through monthly classroom presentations, students learned about selecting and developing a successful careers, establishing bank accounts, financial planning and saving, types and sources of credit, the importance of monthly budgeting and more. All of the presentations were an effort to help students prepare for the financial challenges and lifestyle decisions they will face as adults.
During the fair, students were asked to put their knowledge to the test as they were presented with a series of “real life” spending decisions. Students also interacted with local businesses as consumers based on chosen careers and corresponding monthly income.
A handful of local and state officials attended the event to help students celebrate their new financial knowledge.
