The Westerly Track & Athletic Club’s 32nd annual Clamdigger Road Race will again take place in April, this year on a new course, and with NewportFed as its lead sponsor.
The bank recently donated $2,000 toward the cause, which will support restoration efforts for Westerly Town Beach. The beach sustained significant damage last year as the result of Superstorm Sandy.
“NewportFed is committed to helping this community rebuild their coast, and when the [Westerly Track & Athletic Club] contacted us with this idea, we had to support them!” said Kevin M. McCarthy, president and CEO of NewportFed.
This year’s event will be held Sunday, April 7, in Westerly’s Avondale Farm Preserve, and will include a 5K run, a noncompetitive 5K fitness walk and a 1K kids’ fun run. The course consists of flat roads that run through the preserve and along the Pawcatuck River. Prizes will be awarded to the top three male and female 5K finishers in several age categories. Following the race, all participants will be served chowder and drinks.
