Next-generation challenge supports public libraries

PROVIDENCE – Gov. Gina M. Raimondo on Jan. 23 announced the Studio Rhode Next Generation Libraries Challenge, designed to support public libraries with new technology and training that includes developing a digital creation hub at one library.

Led by the R.I. Office of Innovation in partnership with the R.I. Office of Library and Information Services, any public library is invited to apply. Once selected, one library will receive the following: 10 iPad Pro with Apple Pencil devices, 30 iPad Air devices, an Apple TV, an iMac, a MacBook Air, accessories, a lock and charge storage cart, Apple professional services and Apple Care protection for all devices.

All public libraries are invited to attend a Next Generation Libraries workshop to develop their next generation library vision and collaborate with other libraries on Feb. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick. •
