The magazine, in its 2015 cancer issue that published last month, said there were 14 million cancer cases worldwide in 2012, and that 8 million people die annually from the disease. Newsweek cited the NIH/National Cancer Institute, which said that in 2015, an estimated 1,658,370 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States, and 589,430 people will die from the disease.
The list of the top cancer doctors was compiled through peer nominations and research that Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. has conducted for more than two decades, according to Newsweek.
Castle Connolly received nearly 100,000 peer nominations, from which 2,600 leading cancer specialists were selected for the list.
