PROVIDENCE – The Providence Preservation Society has opened the nomination period for its annual Most Endangered Properties list.
The annual compilation of threatened structures, which can include historic homes, commercial buildings, religious structures and other facilities of historic activities, has been a prominent aspect of its work for more than 20 years.
The nominations will be accepted until Friday, Oct. 30. The list is intended to reflect properties that contribute to the life and character of Providence, but which are endangered by neglect, deterioration, demolition, development, insufficient funds and adverse public policy.
Over the years, the publication of the Most Endangered Properties list has encouraged the saving of several structures.
An online form may be submitted at www.ppsri.org or by contacting the offices directly.
Following the close of nominations, at the Providence Symposium Beyond Buildings: Preserving the Livable Neighborhood, attendees will vote for 10 properties they think should be on the list. The 2016 list will be revealed at the preservation society’s annual meeting on Jan. 20, 2016.
