Nonprofit executives to participate in yearlong certificate program

PROVIDENCE – More than a dozen Rhode Island-based nonprofit professionals are taking part in the Boston-based Institute for Nonprofit Management and Leadership’s first certificate program in the state.
The award-winning program, launched in Massachusetts, offers nonprofit executives the opportunity to hone their management skills, network with the area’s top nonprofit talent, and advance their careers through a rigorous yearlong program.
In partnership with the Jonathan M. Tisch College of Citizenship and Public Service at Tufts University, individuals who complete the program receive a certificate in nonprofit management and leadership from the school.
The institute will accept applications beginning March 7 for a class that will start the end of September.
“The nonprofit management and leadership certificate program provides a strong foundation in the fundamentals of nonprofit management as well as practical application to participants’ daily work,” said Megan Fischer, interim executive director of the Providence Children’s Museum. “I’m thrilled the program has come to Rhode Island and is giving me an opportunity to explore new ideas around leadership with peers from other organizations and put those ideas into practice right away.”
In addition to Fischer, 12 other nonprofit leaders are participating in the program that meets weekly at Save the Bay.
Yolanda Coentro, the institute’s co-president and co-CEO notes, “Rhode Island has a wealth of nonprofit organizations that are critical to the strength of the community. Bringing this program to Rhode Island gives us the chance to build upon this strength and enhance the skills of leaders throughout the sector.”
Founded in 2007, the institute offers yearlong programs in Boston; Lowell, Mass., and Providence. More than 700 nonprofit leaders, representing 400 organizations, have participated since the program’s inception.
The institute’s mission is to transform communities by equipping the most promising nonprofit leaders with the skills, confidence and resources they need to make their organizations effective and innovative. The yearlong program caters to executives, middle managers and “high-potential” young leaders.
