Nonprofit fundraising in a box

Entrepreneurship in a box?

That’s part of the concept of Truepreneurs, a new limited liability company formed last year in Providence by 23-year-old founder and “chief of progress” Brandon Monti.

Truepreneurs sells an educational program that helps students choose nonprofits and then design and sell apparel – typically T-shirts – to raise money for the nonprofits. Inside the box are markers, marketing materials, order forms and design and marketing guidelines written by Monti.

“When you give a student an opportunity to do something real they get it done and make it work,” said Monti. “Students don’t want ‘fake’; they want ‘real,’ ” he said, alluding to the company name.

With a goal of eventually reaching millions of students across the country, Truepreneurs’ seven clients so far are centered largely in the Providence metro area.

Monti suffers from a form of Tourette’s syndrome and says fellow students similarly “displaced” may be drawn to the creativity that entrepreneurship can spark.

“I love creating something out of nothing,” Monti said. “It gets my blood boiling.” •
